First Generation

1. George Washington Poole was born 8 January 1850. He died 26 July 1926 at 76 years of age. His body was interred in Ideal, Macon County, Georgia, in the Ideal Cemetery.

He married Ellen Lawhorn. Ellen was born in Marion County, Georgia 23 December 1853. Ellen was the daughter of Joshua Joel Lawhorn and Mahala Davis. She died in Ideal, Macon County, Georgia, 31 October 1933 at 79 years of age.

MRS. ELLEN L. POOLE CLAIMED BY DEATH

Ideal, Ga. - Nov. 8 - The community was saddened when Mrs. Ellen Lawhorn Poole, wife of the late G. W. Poole died. She had been sick for a long time. Every thing was done for her comfort and restoraion that was possible for human hands to do but God in his wise providence saw best for her to come home, so our loss is her eternal gain.

She was born December 23, 1853 in Marion County, near Buena Vista, Ga. moving to Ideal twenty-two years ago. She was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church, supporting it with her presence, her prayers and her means....

The children that survive her are six daughters; Mrs. W. T. Bell of Ellaville, Ga.; Mrs. Ola Jordan of Pelham, Ga.; Mrs. Ida Simmons of Buena Vista, Ga.; Mrs. J. T. Hobbs of Ideal, Ga.; Mrs. R. N. Johnson of Fort Valley, Ga.; Miss Neva Poole of Ideal, Ga.; three sons; Mr. B. N. Poole of Buena Vista, Ga.; Mrs. G. H. Poole of Jackson, Fla; Mr. W. W. Poole of Ideal, Ga. She leaves thirty-four grandchildren and thirty-six great grandchildren. One brother, Mr. Simeon Lawhorn of Mauk, Ga. also survives.

Funeral services were conducted by her former pastor Rev. H. L. Lumpkin of Cordele, Ga. and Rev. E. L. Jenkins of Ideal, Ga. The pallbearers were: J. M. Brooks, W. H. Terry, J. F. Felkner, G. A. Chapman, G. C. Gilbert and O. P. Harris. Interment was in the Ideal Cemetery.

Her body was interred in Ideal, Macon County, Georgia, in the Ideal Cemetery next to her husband. She was listed on the 14 July 1860 census in Cut Off District, Marion County, Georgia as the 7-year-old residing with Joshua Joel Lawhorn. She moved to a residence in Ideal, Macon County, Georgia about 1875.

5 iv. R. N. Poole. She married Johnson. She resided in Fort Valley, Peach County, Georgia 1933.

6 v. Neva Poole. She resided in Fort Valley, Peach County, Georgia 6 September 1947.

7 vi. B. N. Poole. He resided in Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia 1933. He resided in Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia 1947.

8 vii. G. H. Poole. He resided in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida 1933. He resided in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida 1947.

9 viii. W. W. Poole. He resided in Ideal, Macon County, Georgia 1933. He resided in Ideal, Macon County, Georgia 1947.

10 ix. Nettie Poole was born 22 April 1881. Married John J. Jones, M.G. , estimated 1910. She died 8 November 1929

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. J. J. JONES
Mrs. J. J. Jones, 47 died Friday afternoon at her home here after a long illness. Mrs. Jones, who before her marriage was Miss Nettie Poole of Beuna Vista, daughter of Mrs. G. W. Poole and the late Mr. G. W. Poole, was a faithful and consistent member of the Free Will Baptist Church at Little Bethel. Her life was beautiful in Christian example of patient, devoted service, to God and her fellowman.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. J. J. Jones and five children, Henley Jones, Neva Nell Jones, Mr. S. O. Jones, Mr. Monroe Jones and Mrs. John Weeks, also by her mother, Mrs. G. W. Poole, six sisters; Mrs. W. T. Bell of Ellaville; Mrs. Ola Jordan of Pelham; Mrs. Ida Simmons of Beuna Vista; Mrs. J. T. Hobbs of Ideal; Mrs. R. J. Jonson of Fort Valley, and Miss Neva Poole of Ideal. Three brothers: Mr. B. U. Poole of Ellaville; Mrs. G. H. Poole of Opelika, Al., and Mr. W. W. Poole of Ideal.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock from Little Bethel Church by Rev. Emerson and Rev. H. L. Lumpkin.
Pallbearers were: Mr. R. M. McInvale, Monroe Jones, Seaborn Jones; Horace Cromer, Well Poole, B. U. Poole
Interment was in the Little Bethel Cemetery.

11 x. Lilla Ozella Poole was born 27 May 1889. She died at the home of her sister, Miss Neva Poole, in Fort Valley, Peach County, Georgia, 6 September 1947 at 58 years of age. Her body was interred 7 September 1947 in Ideal, Macon County, Georgia, in the Ideal Cemetery.

MRS. OZELLA HOBBS, 56, BURIED SUNDAY AT IDEAL.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Ozella Poole Hobbs, 56, former resident of Ideal, were held from the Ideal Baptist Church Sunday afternoon, September 7, at 4 pm. Mrs. Hobbs who died at the home of her sister, Miss Neva Poole, in Fort Valley Saturday afternoon, had been in ill health for almost three years.

Mrs. Hobbs was born on May 27, 1891, the daughter of the late George W. & Ellen Lawhorn Poole and had made her home in Fort Valley for the past three years. She was a member of the Ideal Baptist Church. Before she became ill, Mrs. Hobbs was a teacher in one of the Macon County Schools for a number of years.

Survivors include her husband, J. T. Hobbs, four sisters, Mrs. W. T. Bell, Mrs. ida Simmons of Buena Vista, Mrs. Ola Jordan of Pelham; and Miss Neva Poole of Fort Valley; three brothers, B. U. Poole of Vista; G. H. Poole of Jacksonville, Fla., and W. W. Poole of Ideal and several nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Carl Ayers officiated at the services and interment was in the Ideal Cemetery. Montezuma Funeral Home was in charge.

She married Joseph T. Hobbs estimated 1907.

Joseph was born 16 August 1893. He died 23 March 1950 at 56 years of age. His body was interred in Ideal, Macon County, Georgia, in the Ideal Cemetery next to his wife Ozella.

She resided in Ideal, Macon County, Georgia 1933.

Second Generation

10. Nettie2 Poole (George Washington1) was born 22 April 1881. She died 8 November 1929 at 48 years of age. Her body was interred in Ideal, Macon County, Georgia, in the Little Bethel Freewell Baptist Church Cemetery. (obit)

She married John J. Jones estimated 1910. John was born 12-Sep-1863. He married Savannah Rogers. He died 17 February 1930 at 66 years of age. His body was interred in Ideal, Macon County, Georgia, in the Little Bethel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

12. Henley Grady3 Jones (Nettie2 Poole, George Washington1) was born 25 March 1911. He died 9 April 1951 at 40 years of age. His body was interred in Ideal, Macon County, Georgia, in the Little Bethel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

FINAL RITES FOR HENLEY GRADY JONES, 40, HELD WEDNESDAY

Final rites for Henley Grady Jones, 40 of Thomaston, were held at 10:00 am Wednesday at the Little Bethel Church near Ideal. The Rev. W. J. Childers officiated, assisted by the Rev. Luther Lancaster, and burial was in the Church Cemetery. Mr. Jones' death occurred Monday night. Born on March 25, 1911 in Macon County, the son of the late John and Nettie Poole Jones, the deceased had made his home in Thomaston for the past 15 years.

Survivors include his wife, the former Oleta Barfield; a son, Julian Jones of Thomaston; a daughter, Marion Jones of Thomaston; two sister, Mrs. Roy Windham of Marshallville and Mrs. John Weeks of Ideal; and two brothers, Seaborn Oscar Jones of Ideal and John Monroe Jones of Warner Robins.

Smith-Tindol Funeral Service was in charge.

He married Oleta Barfield. Oleta was born in Taylor County, Georgia 27-Aug-1912. Oleta was the daughter of Thomas Lafayette Barfield and Eldora Theus. She died in Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia, 19-Sep-1992 at 80 years of age. Her body was interred in Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia, in a nearby cemetery.

13. Neva Nelle3 Jones (Nettie2 Poole, George Washington1) was born 9 May 1917. She died 10 June 1993 at 76 years of age. Her body was interred in Oglethorpe, Macon County, Georgia.

She married Roy Saunders Windham in Macon County, Georgia. Roy's occupation: Sheriff in Macon County, Georgia.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR NEVA NELLE JONES WINDHAM
Mrs. Neva Nelle Jones Windham of 208 Patricia Drive, Montezuma, Georgia, died Thursday, June 10, 1993, in Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia.
Services were held at 11 am Saturday, June 12, in the First Baptist Church, Montezuma, with burial in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens. Dr. Randy Gregg officiated. Pallbearers were Jack Hardage, Frank Kelley, Buddy Clark, Tommy Ham, Randy Starling and Carl Peaster.
Mrs. Windham, a lifelong resident of Macon County, was the daughter of the Rev. John Jones and Nellie Poole Jones. She was a retired nurse, the founder of the Oaks Nursing Home in Marshallville, and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors are her husband, Roy Sanders Windham of Montezuma, a daughter, Dianne Walker of Marshallville, a son, William Jule Windham of Montezuma, three grandchildren, Damon Walker, Ashton Windham and Spencer Windham, a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Windham of Montezuma, a son-in-law Robert C. Walker of Marshallville, and a number of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church or to a favorite charity.
Watson-Mathews Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

he people of Macon County were saddened last week by news of the death of
Roy Sanders Windham, founder of the Oaks Nursing Home and former Macon County Sheriff. He was a man who will be remembered for his accomplishments and public service, but also for his kindness, his sense of humor and his friendship.
Mr. Windham, a lifelong resident of Macon County, and Marshallville native,
passed away at a Macon hospital on Monday March 20, 1995. He was 76.
Funeral services were held the following day at Montezuma First Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Gregg officiating. Burial was in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Windham was the son of Rowe Windham and Maude Sanders Windham of Marshallville and was an army veteran of World War 11, who fought in the D-Day Landing. He served three terms as sheriff of Macon County and ran the Oaks Nursing Home with his late wife, Nelle Jones Windham.
He is survived by a daughter, Dianne Windham Walker of Marshallville and a son, Commissioner W. Jule Windham of Montezuma, Daugjhter-in-law, Bonnie Windham, Son-in-law, Bob Walker and three grandchildren, Damon Walker, Ashton Windham and Spencer Windham.
A son, Roy S. "Sandy" Windham, Jr. preceded his father in death. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Mervin W. Johnson of Marshallville and Mrs. Maurice W. Wright of Perry and their families.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR ROY SANDERS WINDHAM, JR. 21.
Funeral services for Roy Sanders "Sandy" Windham, Jr., 21, of Oglethorpe, who died Sunday in Emory Hospital in Atlanta after a two months illness, were held Tuesday, February 24, at the Marshallville Baptist Church. Rev. William C. Tribble, former pastor, and Rev. Carl Ayers officiated. Mrs. Sherman DeVoe rendered soft organ music.
Pallbearers were Marvin Brown, Darryl Jones, Randal Washington, Mike Kennan, Dean Fulghum, Jamie Williams, Ben Haugabook and Steve Smith, Burial was in the Oglethorpe Cemetery.
Mr. Windham was a native of Macon County and was a member of Marshallville Baptist Church. He was graduated from Macon County Schools and was a junior at the University of Georgia.
He was the son of Sheriff and Mrs. Roy S. Windham, Sr. of Oglethorpe. Survivors in addition to his parents include a sister, Mrs. Robert C. Walker of Atlanta and a brother, Jule Windham of Oglethorpe.

Fourth Generation

14. Julian Grady4 Jones (Henley Grady3, Nettie2 Poole, George Washington1) was born in Taylor County, Georgia 23-Oct-1933. He married Genelle Carroll and they have two children (Cindy Jones and Chris Jones).

15. Marion4 Jones (Henley Grady3, Nettie2 Poole, George Washington1) was born in Taylor County, Georgia 4 May 1936. She died in Warner Robins, Houston County, Georgia, 28 July 1992 at 56 years of age.

She married Lon Jack Scroggins Jr. 5-Oct-1955. Lon was born in Sylacauga, Talladega County, Alabama 15 June 1931.
